Stop These Things’ Weekly Round Up: 11 October 2026

CALM NIGHTS; CALM NIGHTS; CALM NIGHTS; CALM NIGHTS and CALM NIGHTS are the simple reason why wind and solar will never amount to meaningful power sources. That’s it. No sunshine, no solar power. No wind, no wind power.

While a calm day might see a little solar trickle into the grid (usually an uncontrollable flood at high noon) wind turbines simply slack off and their owners couldn’t care less about your power needs. The only upside is that birds, bats, bees and bugs can operate as they have done for millennia without the threat of being splattered, or sliced and diced to oblivion.

A run of calm days – ‘wind droughts’ in English and ‘Dunkelflaute’ in the German, quickly drain the so-called mega-batteries and see grid managers scrambling to keep the system from total collapse. Power rationing and blackouts soon follow. No amount of huff and puff from propagandists can escape the effect of sunset and calm weather.

Which brings us to this week’s roundup.

Paris Apodaca picks up the theme above, with a report from the UK where calm weather has resulted in total market chaos, once again…..

Eric Worrall picks up on a report outlining the devastating consequences for Britain’s industry and households. Apparently wealthy elites will be untroubled by the chaos caused by a system now totally dependent upon intermittent wind power.

Parker Gallant reports from Canada on the converse: where electricity demand drops as the weather warms up, but the market remains flooded with uncontrollable wind and solar. But don’t shed a tear for wind and solar operators, their revenue streams are guaranteed by $billions in taxpayer subsidies.

The team from Jo Nova describe the bunfight between energy rent-seekers in Australia, where everyone wants a slice of the taxpayer backed revenues, but nobody wants to bear responsibility for the obscene and escalating cost embedded in ‘building’ a system that can only run when the sun is up and the wind is blowing.
