Trump has never been a fan of the wind industry, not least because of his battle with a wind developer keen on spearing 11 of these things next to a golf course he owns in Scotland.
When Trump took control of the White House renewable energy rent seekers must have known their days of endless subsidies were numbered. Just like everywhere else, the wind and solar ‘industries’ in the US wouldn’t exist without Renewable Portfolio Standards, mandates, targets and other subsidies. And those policies in turn depend on the USA’s commitment to UN mandated targets for reducing carbon dioxide gas emissions.
Well-aware that making America great again, depends upon maintaining reliable and affordable power, Donald Trump gave the two fingered salute to the Paris Agreement, soon after he took office. Well, much to the horror of the climate industrial complex, the US President has doubled down; rejecting overtures from the UN climate alarmists, keen to drag the USA back to Paris, and calling wind and solar, utterly useless.

President Trump broke with the Group of 20 (G-20) nations on the need for climate change action on Saturday, saying the United States has the “cleanest water we have ever had.”
“We have the cleanest water we have ever had,” Trump said at a news conference at the G-20 summit in Japan. “We have the cleanest air we’ve ever had, but I’m not willing to sacrifice the tremendous power of what we’ve built up over a long period of time and what I’ve enhanced and revived.”
The U.S. joined the other G-20 nations in signing on to a communique that sought to commit the countries to taking action to curb climate change. However, the U.S. reportedly signed on to the declaration only after it was able to include a clause in the document that would allow it to be exempt from commitments outlined in the agreement.
All G-20 nations will “strive to foster inclusive finance for sustainable development, including public and private financing mobilization and alignment between them, as well as innovation in a wide range of areas for low emissions and resilient development,” the communique stated.
“Climate actions at all levels with broad participation, including by non-state actors, will be the key to realizing such a paradigm shift,” it continued while reaffirming the G-20 nations’ commitment to the Paris climate accord and the agreement’s “irreversibility.”
However, breaking from the other 19 nations in the joint declaration, the United States said in the communique that it “reiterates its decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement because it disadvantages American workers and taxpayers.”
“The U.S.’s balanced approach to energy and environment allows for the delivery of affordable, reliable, and secure energy to all its citizens while utilizing all energy sources and technologies, including clean and advanced fossil fuels and technologies, renewables, and civil nuclear power, while also reducing emissions and promoting economic growth,” it added.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Trump said, “I’m not sure that I agree with certain countries with what they are doing. They are losing a lot of power. I am talking about the powering of a plant.”
“It doesn’t always work with a windmill. When the wind goes off, the plant isn’t working. It doesn’t always work with solar because solar [is] just not strong enough, and a lot of them want to go to wind, which has caused a lot of problems,” he continued, according to The Washington Post.
“Wind doesn’t work for the most part without subsidy. The United States is paying tremendous amounts of subsidies for wind. I don’t like it. I don’t like it,” he added.
His comments came shortly after a report citing federal data from The Associated Press showed that the country experienced a stark increase in polluted air days in each of the past two years compared to any of the previous four years under the Obama administration.
Earlier this year, data from the Environmental Protection Agency also found that reductions in greenhouse gas emissions slowed greatly under the Trump administration in 2017 as his office continues to work to roll back Obama-era regulations designed to reduce emissions of the harmful gasses.

What will happen when turbines in Ontario are derated permanently because they’ve finally been declared non-compliant for audible noise? Will they produce even less energy while the government continues to subsidize them? Will the people of Ontario allow such wasteful spending?
It took four years of persistent pressure from residents to get more than half of the turbines in the largest project in Ontario derated, setting a precedent for other residents being forced to live within other industrial wind power stations to do the same.
Will derating actually stop the noise?
Will the Conservative government now take responsible action to stop the harm from LFN modulations and infrasound by turning the turbines off?
Will the people who have been harmed be compensated?

Must every debate degenerate to tribalism? Why can’t it be that Trump is right about wind power and simultaneously wrong about finite fossil fuels and their climate impact?
The so-called U.S. shale revolution could peak in under 5 years, since its recoverable reserves (ERoI) are nowhere near the volume of U.S. conventional crude oil, which peaked in the early 70s, with a temporary resurgence from Alaska that peaked in the late 80s. Many falsehoods rely on oil-in-place data vs. what’s economically recoverable. Coal will be around for a long time but it’s a major CO2 source and mountaintop-removal echoes wind turbines on ridges. Note all the wind-pushers who claim mines are ugly but wind turbines are beautiful, though far more people see the latter now. Both are destructive but wind power is more hypocritical.
You’d think the fossil fuel business (and true conservatives) would want to stretch its product as long as possible vs. squandering it with gas-guzzling attitudes that Trump pushes. Rednecks/bogans buy oversized trucks, modify them for even worse MPG, idle them incessantly, “roll coal” to snub pollution laws, etc. Some have admitted they think Jesus will return so we may as well burn it all up. Mindless attitudes.
Getting back to wind vs. other energy sources: Why must it always be “us vs. them” in standard debates? Tribalism is embedded in average genes, while above-average people see that we need to reign in growthism and stop wasting ALL resources.
