Stop These Things’ Weekly Round Up: 12 July 2026

The wind and solar ‘industries’ keep telling us that their (occasional) product is always the cheapest, by miles. That story rests on the claim that the wind and sun always ‘free’. All that’s needed is the right ideological will to harness sunshine and breezes. That, and hundreds of billions of dollars in subsidies, of course.

Cutting subsidies provides the perfect test of the hubris upon which the claims above depend. The moment legislators get serious about removing the mandates, targets, subsidies and/or tax credits, rent-seekers and crony capitalists start wailing like banshees.

Which brings us to this week’s roundup.

The US Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright has just announced the perfect opportunity for wind and solar scammers for back up their claims about being able to deliver reliable, affordable and abundant electricity (or not).  The Feds have just ended all federal tax credit subsidies for new wind and solar projects not currently under construction, so expect the howling to begin.

The team from Jo Nova report from Western Australia, where the government’s cunning plan to cut 4,000 isolated farm houses from the electricity grid and force them to fend for themselves using solar panels and batteries has turned into a complete debacle. The 500 or so who have already been cut from the grid are getting to live with the kind of power supply you’d expect in Cuba.

As Pierre Gosselin reports irony comes in many shapes and sizes. Cynics might recall these things were meant to cool a planet well on its way to imminent incineration. Instead, just like giant frost fans in vineyards and orchards, these whirling wonders are raising temperatures wherever they operate.

The Australian Financial Review is the Crony Capitalist Chronicle, which rent-seekers swear by, especially those in on the wind and solar scam. So it must have gouged the minuscule moral compass of its journos, Ryan Cropp to report on the mounting avian carcass count at one wind power outfits operation in New South Wales, where 66 of these things managed to slice and dice 20 wedge-tailed eagles over the last 18 months, alone.

Meanwhile in the Netherlands, their solution to the mounting dead eagle ‘problem’ is to stop wind turbines operating during daylight hours to give the critters are fighting chance.

Ian, now Lord Botham (a famous English cricket player) unloads on the wind and solar scam destroying a once green and pleasant land.

More than 20 wind turbines were destroyed after a thunderstorm struck the US state of South Dakota on Monday (29 June). Proving not only that these things are dependent on the weather, but prone to it and, therefore, utterly pointless.

Stay tuned, STT will be back next week with more.
