The Three Stooges? Actually, there’s 25

stooges 5The followers of a fake Twitter account set up in the name “Waubra Sarah” certainly provide interesting reading.

Some of the leading lights of the wind industry are there.

In contrast to their self-proclaimed professional status of “we’re saving the planet, we care for community, we’re engaged, we’re involved”, we have a group of people and organizations playing  a version of social media dress-ups.

Two years after a Senate inquiry called for an independent study into the health effects of wind turbines as a matter of urgency, Simon Chapman, Hepburn Wind, Infigen, Lane Crockett and others are playing Twitter “ring-a-ring rosy”.

And again they are appearing to support the “sport” of making fun of people who are sick.

All we can say is well done. Your mothers must be proud.

Some interesting names are listed as followers of @WaubraSarah.

Adam Gray – wind industry employee. Worked for West Wind in 2009. And weren’t they among the most reputable of companies ever registered?

Sebastian Klein – former mayor of Hepburn Shire.

Seb, we know your area (Trentham) is a long way from the Hepburn wind farm. We know you are passionate about renewable energy. But we suggest you read our earlier post on blaming the victim.

Alicia Webb – wind engineer, works with Holmes a Court. No surprises there. We know the community ethos of Hepburn Wind is just spin.

Lane Crockett – general manager for Australia for Pacific Hydro. Must be busy these days, Lane, to be involved in this sort of shite?

photo5

Tom Gray – describes himself as a “wind energy communications consultant”.

He’s also deputy executive director of the American Wind Energy Association.

Good one, Tom, but this is Australia, mate. What the hell do you think you’re doing?

Tristan Price – PR suit for Porter Novelli, Acciona’s PR company. Not a good look, Tristan.

Graham Readfearn – green journo pretending to be independent.

Patrick McClelland – see Porter Novelli. Acciona is obviously paying you guys too much.

Graham Lloydfake account for the The Australian journalist. Another inspired piece of social media crap. The real Graham Lloyd doesn’t bother with Twitter. He’s too busy telling the real story on wind farms. Old school journalism, doing what old school journalists used to do. Report the truth.

Hepburn Wind – an organization with a “serious commitment” to the community … clearly.

Ben Courtice – green campaigner.

photo3Ken McAlpine – the head of government relations for turbine manufacturer, Vestas.

In this link here, Vestas described Australia as a very important (ie profitable) market. Ken, next time you meet with Greg Combet do let him know about your Twitter activities.

Sandi Keane – self-style “investigative” journalist.

Hey Sandi, you do great PR for the wind industry but you’d get paid more if you worked for Porter Novelli. (Maybe you already do?)

Leigh Ewbank – writes for a Friends of the Earth blog site devoted entirely to spouting how good wind energy is. That’s Friends of the Earth Australia that employs at least three people, possibly more, but doesn’t get any wind industry funding.

photo2Simon Chapman – surprise surprise.

Ketan Joshi – again, surprise surprise.

You two need to get jobs … real jobs.

Richard Mackie – another snout in the wind farm trough.

So you’re proud of being responsible for Toora wind farm, Richard? (Scroll down on the above link. That’s what he says.)

We think you should heed the words of Lincoln.

“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present.”

(That’s Abe Lincoln, Richard, not Lincoln Crockett, the bluegrass guy.)

Actually, just heed the words of Peter Barber. See our earlier post: The conversion of a pro-wind lawyer.

photo4Infigen Energy – must be Jonathan Upson. Goon one, Johnno. Sorry, we mean “Good one”.

Tweets done on this fake account include making fun of a woman who lives in Dereel, Victoria, who claims to suffer chronic sickness from over-exposure to radiation (see below).

How funny is that?

All we can say is if you lot represent the wind industry’s finest, then some would say we’ve already won.

And to the real Sarah Laurie, Dr Sarah Laurie, CEO of the Waubra Foundation: You must really have these people rattled. Keep on doing whatever you’re doing.

Update: See Rumor File.

    Give us a break…..
….The words.. “Green” .. and.. “Sustainability”,.. are hackneyed, no longer have any meaning, and are perceived as ..”platitudinous spin” among professional communicators…..
…… They should be deleted from the corporate/political vocabulary….try…..

    … “Social/Environmental Responsibility”…!.

  2. The more one sits back and watches these clowns the more they hang themselves. If it wasn’t so tragic it would be hilarious! And Sarah is right – but why do we really expect that Big Wind will ever care about the “collateral damage”? And Martin is certainly right – where are our parliamentary, elected representatives when you absolutely need them? Why do we foolishly continue to expect better? Is it too much to ask that decency, humanity and the welfare of the common man be respected? Apparently! There are times (and this time may rapidly be approaching) when there is an argument for civil disobedience.

  3. It would be interesting if Chapman could confirm his twitter associations.

Chapman keeps claiming he has no “official” associations with the wind industry. I suppose he could have “unofficial” associations and “unofficial” could mean friendships or whatever else.

“Good luck” to this cartel of sadistic business men and academics, and whatever else. They behave like stinking vultures that are attracted to this “person” called Waubra Sarah.

  4. Dr Sarah Laurie, CEO Waubra Foundation says:

Thanks STT for exposing this fraud – a tiny one, compared to the fraud that is being perpetrated on so many vulnerable rural families with people whose lives are being shattered, including turbine hosts who are also lied to about the “no adverse health effects” too.

I am disgusted by the behaviour of these individuals listed above in ridiculing someone who is sick, as I am by their ongoing denials that these wind turbines are causing serious harm to health, despite the growing peer reviewed published evidence to the contrary, in addition to reports from citizens around the world.

Being a responsible corporate citizen would mean working WITH neighbours reporting harm and sleep deprivation, rather than being obstructive. It would mean cooperating with requests to hand over wind mast data and SCADA data so that compliance with existing noise regulations can be properly determined by acousticians independent of them, as the noise polluter. It would mean working constructively towards finding a solution, and towards research which will enable better planning regulations.

Instead, they resort to mockery of sick people, and conspire to keep the truth hidden for as long as possible, which will only delay the inevitable, and increase the chances of significant sums for punitive or aggravated damages being awarded in the inevitable litigation.

The full impact of these turbines is terrible for those who become sick.

NO ONE leaves their home for no reason.

No one signs a contract for the sale of their much loved home which also contains a “gag” clause unless they are absolutely desperate to get away because of the damage being done to the health of themselves or their loved ones

    They are NOT “collateral damage”

    They are NOT “policy roadkill”

    They are NOT “receptor locations”

They are Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Children, Babies, Cousins, Aunts and Uncles, and Grandparents. Some are particularly vulnerable because of their age, (frail elderly citizens, babies, and young children) some are vulnerable to the effects of the turbines because of their preexisting health conditions.

What is occurring is a fundamental and deliberate abuse of human rights by the people working in these large and small corporates who know about these problems, which ultimately their directors and their shareholders also share some responsibility for.

James Lovelock’s recent words are worth quoting – yes he too is confronting the possibility of industrial sized wind turbines near his home in North Devon.

“I am an environmentalist and founder member of the Greens, but I bow my head in shame at the thought that our original good intentions should have been so misunderstood and misapplied. We never intended a fundamentalist Green movement that rejected all energy sources other than renewable, nor did we expect the Greens to cast aside our priceless ecological heritage because of their failure to understand that the needs of the Earth are not separable from human needs.

We need take care that the spinning windmills do not become like the statues on Easter Island, monuments of a failed civilisation.”

  5. Regrettably, Wind Watch reciprocated with a follow when this account was first set up, and then didn’t pay attention as its true tone was soon made clear. Its recent uptick in activity suggests they are getting desperate. Something Chapman or his friends should also note is that satire works only when truth is on your side. Otherwise it is empty mockery by a petulant bully and only underscores their fraudulence.

  6. Dont worry people, we all know that the weak hide behind their computer screens, could you imagine any of this lot getting out to address a public meeting? or knocking on your front door and telling you they were thinking of jacking up a few turbines just outside your place?
Why is it that almost all members of wind related companies are so scared of public contact? unyet we hear them spin their crap on radio and see their rubbish written up in the press?
Maybe you should find out how much money the wind industry paid the fiends of the earth to be their spokespeople while your at it?
And ask Lane Crockett why he wouldnt want to live next to a wind turbine as he quite definativly stated at a meeting at the Ballan Hall some years ago! Not to mention he had to be cohersed into speaking in the first place.

  7. Martin Hayles says:

I’m not sure where to start.
I was at the recent upper house, legislative council inquiry into wind farms in South Australia as an observer. I sat 2 metres behind of the right shoulder of Russell Marsh, the policy director of The Clean Energy Council and looking at the left profile of Alicia Webb. They would not have known who I was, but possibly reckoned I was not there in their support. Russell Marsh, necessarily had to move his head towards me to view his PowerPoint presentation. Not once did this coward look me in the eyes, while I gave him every opportunity. It took Alicia Webb, the insubstantial clown and the master of the dark art of obfuscation, 30 minutes to look me in the eye. I held her gaze and after no more than 3 seconds she looked downwards and did not seek my gaze again. These people were asked how they could represent companies that have interest in both wind farms and fossil fuels, and they had the gall and arrogance to suggest these interests could be separated. ie.(check this out) they could represent the part of the company that invests in renewables, but at the same time not be representative of the fossil fuel interests of the company. I listened to this waffle and waited for the members of the legislative council to bounce these suckers, but nary a mention. What the hell is happening with the governance of this once great country.

I am just a simple farmer who is attempting to defend his 132-year-old farm and I am left wondering what the hell is happening to this place when I can remember back to the times when the bitumen road was coming by here in the late 60’s, when life appeared to be simpler, when I was happy to work a hard week and get my pay packet which had real dollars in it and even a few coins.
I am dismayed that we are prostituting ourselves to these corporate whores.
    To hell with them.

    Martin Hayles

  8. Jackie Rovensky says:

Wonder if Chapman and co will include these so called health claims made in this stupid childish no more than you can expect from idiots tweet, created by him and his cronies, in his list of complaints of ill health he and his partners in stupidity have recorded?
