Environmentally Conscious Amish Farmers Reject Toxic Large-Scale Solar Power Projects

The Amish community has already declared war on wind power, now it’s solar’s turn.

A more devout and God-fearing bunch, you’d be hard to find. Shunning many of the trappings of modern society, the Amish might seem backward to some. However, when it comes to taking on America’s rent-seeking wind and solar industries, they’re in a league of their own.

Threatened by massive solar projects planned their communities, a group of Amish in upstate New York has said “thanks, but no thanks”. Here’s why.

True solar farmers sound alarm on ‘green energy’ panels

Sixty Amish signed a letter of concern regarding the threat to their way of life by the many solar projects being imposed on our region by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. They delivered the letter to the Chautauqua Town Board.

Amish farmers lease land from local and absentee landowners to augment their farming. They also live dependent on healthy farmland without the contaminants in the soil water and heat zones caused by solar projects.

Mandated by Cuomo’s misguided “green energy” policy, solar will pave over vast areas of fields and forests with dark glass and concrete blocking the natural absorption of CO2. The sun’s heat will be reflected causing higher temperatures in the project region.

Unlike those who pretend to be “environmentalists” Amish farmers use little electricity.

As true stewards of the land, Amish use natural fertilizers – the healthy way of recycling manure to revitalize land rather than use fossil fuel sourced fertilizers. Their cycle of hard work, growing food, raising animals and returning the nutrients to the land is a principled lifestyle unlike those who simply say they are “green”.

Amish farmers have been offered cash to pave over their land with solar but they know it will destroy farming, the land and the forests, “The animals and the soil will be harmed,” said one. “We as a family take walks across the land on Sundays. We would no longer be able to do that if we took money for solar development.”

Solar panels are identified by the EPA as one of the sources of polyfluoroalkyl substances — a group of man-made chemicals that never decompose and are cancer causing.

Mayville is currently spending $1 million to clean up PFAS contaminants in the water in three of its wells. This effort is to remove PFAS in quantities of parts per trillion – a very small amount is considered hazardous. No solar project should be placed near water sources or in a water table that could contaminate Chautauqua Lake. Prevention of contamination, not mitigation to clean it up afterwards is essential.

Tourism is important to all in this area including the Amish. Solar projects eliminate recreational land, diminishing the economic viability of the community as well as destroying the local environment.

Ontario grid operator and the European Energy Commission have stated that a cost-benefit analysis of energy produced by solar at northern latitudes shows a negative result.

It takes more energy to build a solar facility here than is produced in its lifetime. The taxpayer-provided subsidies (bribes) do not justify the damage done.

The Amish are true solar farmers along with anyone involved in agriculture, forestry, and other natural resource-related activities.

  1. There are also Amish people in Huron County, in Ontario, who are more aware of the truth than most other residents. These people are real stewards of their land.

  2. When I learned there was 1 part per 2500 of CO2 in the air that discovery hit me like a big cumulus cloud filled with charcoal hits an environ MENTALIST up there floating on their magic carpets of belief they will fix and manage the weather. I realized the lies that all these environmental agencies spew out constantly about this absurdly small measure of carbon which is not a toxin, never telling anyone that IT IS RECYCLED 24/7 by Mother Nature and the “evil” climate that changes making rain, blowing wind, always bringing any excess like with smoke back to Earth unlike the floating minds in the sky, I started analyzing what is being thrown around with actual toxins such as the above stated being dealt with in the parts per TRILLIONS. I question those claims. All of these claims have toxic cash flows attached. Excess sugar in the diet in quantities of TRILLIONS more in weight than these infinitely small chemical particles and is never blamed because it simply would not get the funding for study as that is proven there is no vaccine, no new chemical formula, no new treatment to sell for big bucks. Just have to tell people stop consuming that substance. So I really don’t buy this argument that we need to be so concerned about this 3 parts per trillion thing or whatever the actual number is that remains infinitesimally small and a number that no one will bother researching. “This effort is to remove PFAS in quantities of parts per trillion – a very small amount is considered hazardous.” Hazardous according to who? Did any one of those analysis of it being “hazardous” in such small quantities factor in how when these communities are “exposed” there is always only a few affected and that their diet could consist of oil slicks and sugar and a wealth of other poisons in foods? No they just hunt for one thing. I wouldn’t bring up the barely existent ‘dangerous toxins’ that are in the few parts per trillion, it’s the HEAT GENERATED by solar farms and their net loss is the most important point to be emphasized. They claim they are fixing “climate change” which is a very broad term where only the sun, frigid space, rules of convection, and water vapor are the ONLY FACTORS of all climate change. The wacky ‘solutions’ of something that cannot be controlled by installing more industrial solutions, and permanently damaging the soils and carbon capture mechanisms there, while placing BLACK heat absorbing/emitting panels is so typical of the snake oil sales pitchers. The Amish got it right.
