Renewables ‘Transition’ Hits Roadblock: Germans Vote 25 to 1 to Reject Giant Wind Power Project

When given the choice, no rational human being would ever welcome giant industrial wind turbines in their community, let alone agree to have these things speared quite literally into their backyards. Even farmers paid $millions to host them, hate the grinding thumping cacophony they produce: SA Farmers Paid $1 Million to Host 19 Turbines Tell Senate they “Would Never Do it Again” due to “Unbearable” Sleep-Destroying Noise

Thousands of Germans are being driven mad by practically incessant, turbine generated low-frequency noise and infra-sound, and are fighting back with a fury and energy which has rattled the wind industry. There are now hundreds of anti-wind industry groups across Germany. And many of those groups and individuals have launched litigation against developers and government to either prevent wind farms from being built, or to seek substantial financial compensation for the loss of the use and enjoyment of their homes.

A full-scale revolt by rural folk sick and tired of being forced to live with these things is one of the reasons for the rapid and staggering collapse in new wind farm construction in Germany.

The other is that subsidies have been slashed, wrecking the business model of wind turbine and solar panel manufacturers (as well as the parasites that feed on those subsidies). Tens of thousands of their workers have been sacked and numerous operators have filed for bankruptcy: Wind Power Investment Collapses as Germany’s Wind Industry Faces Total Armageddon

But, at the moment, it seems that it’s grassroots action that’s bringing the wind industry to a standstill across Germany.

Overwhelming Rejection! German Community Shoots Down Planned Wind Park By Vote Of 269 – 11

Currently green energy proponents are pushing to significantly ease restrictions against the construction of wind parks, and don’t want to hear any complaints from pesky local citizens. But resistance to projects has reached a massive scale.

Across the country people have come to realize that although the produced electricity from wind is CO2 emissions free, the massive environmental impacts the huge industrial contraptions are having on the landscape, regional environment and public health risks aren’t worth it.

Local citizens reject planned local wind park
Today we find another powerful example of how wind projects planned near communities are being overwhelmingly rejected.

Near the North German community of Ovelgönnes, citizens shot down plans to build a wind park comprising four 200-meter tall Vesta 126 wind turbines each with a rated capacity of 3.45 MW, reports the daily Nordwest Zeitung (NWZ).

The generator hub height is planned for 137 meters, close to 200 meters at the tip of the blade.

In mid January, local citizens gathered for an information evening aimed at explaining what the project was about. But as reported by the NWZ, the project proponents were met with “severe opposition” to their plans. The article described the information meeting as “charged with emotion”.

One local resident claimed: “Here personal effort for profits is being placed above the common good.” Another resident accused the project supporters of “putting public health at risk”.

Only 600 meters setback
A preliminary plan by wind park builder Windstrom shows that the turbines would be a mere 600 meters away from the nearest homes and only 1000 meters from the community of Großenmeer, east of the proposed park.

Rejected 269 – 11
The project went to a vote earlier this week, reported the Nordwest Zeitung (NWZ). The result was devastating: only 11 (4%) were in favor of the park, 269 (94%) were against.

  1. “that although the produced electricity from wind is CO2 emissions free” This statement from the article above is simply false. When you consider the carbon footprint of producing every part of the wind turbine; then transporting it to the site; and then anchoring it to a massive concrete pad, the CO2 produced will never be reduced by the alleged carbon free blades of the turbine. In fact, the mass production of these eagle killing machines produces a huge increase in CO2 without ever considering the necessity of having back-up conventional generation when these things quit producing electrons.

      1. Understood…keep giving these turbiners hell. I’m an Aussie living in the U.S. and cannot believe the idiots here can’t take a lesson from what the Germans and the Aussies are doing to themselves…

    1. Peter,
carbon free blades???? They are made of resin (contains carbon) and reinforced with carbon fibres. There are minor components with foam (contains carbon), hollow glass spheres with plastic fibre mat (contains carbon) etc. And there are hollow air-filled spaces (contains CO2).
