Letter #2 re Simon Chapman’s “study”

Professor Bruce Robinson
Dean
The University of Sydney
NSW 2006

20 March 2013

Dear Professor Robinson,

It is with great disappointment and concern that I write to you today regarding the troubling misconduct of a senior academic at your institution, Professor Simon Chapman.

As you are undoubtedly aware, Professor Chapman has been publicly vocal regarding individuals and community groups who express health and well-being concerns regarding large scale industrial wind turbines erected in close proximity to their homes.

Recent email correspondence between Professor Chapman and Dr Sarah Laurie of the Waubra Foundation have made it in to the public domain (see forward below).

The conduct yesterday by your academic was sarcastic, condescending and most unprofessional.

Whilst I have much reservation regarding the independence of Professor Chapman’s research, his public profile via blogs, twitter and electronic media is appalling. His public intimidation and bullying toward marginalised and suffering rural people, who relate their ill-health to the wind turbines near their homes, is morally reprehensible.

I herewith make an official complaint and expect that you will follow correct investigations and disciplinary procedures.  I trust also that you will inform me of the processes involved in these matters including timelines.  I implore your direct action in this matter on behalf of the esteemed university at which you are employed to provide leadership.

I await your response at your earliest convenience and trust as a health professional that you will handle these matters with the dignity, humanity and integrity they so deserve.

Your sincerely

Rebecca Fagan

  1. Chapman is suffering from something far more severe than “wind turbine syndrome”. It is called “closed mind syndrome”. It happens when promises of money and prestige, offered by the wind industry, destroys so many brain cells, that the individual can no longer function as a decent human being. They resort to spewing ignorant comments, and defending useless ideas, all for the sake of the mean green…..MONEY. I hope the intelligent, moral, decent human beings in this world, are able to come up with a cure….fast!
